1. Call for Mini-Workshop Proposals

It is time to start planning for our mini-workshops. Carrying on our tradition of sharing, we would like to offer several informal workshops during the retreat. Is there a technique or project you would like to share?

We need your input!  What short classes would you like to offer?

As a workshop leader you choose the day, time and duration of your class. You can set a minimum and a maximum class size. Several people can lead a class together. You volunteer your time. You can offer a kit with a kit fee, and/or have a supply list for participants. The class can be hands-on or a demo.

In the past we have done things like learn doll-making techniques, make beaded bracelets, felt bars of soap, make altered books, explore foiling on fabric, see demos of lace making, decorate glass Christmas balls, and try yoga. Anything goes!

FYI, we have had one request for a workshop on basic paper piecing. Anyone want to offer one?

Send your ideas to Sandy by September 20th.  We will send out the offerings in October so you can register for the classes you want.

For those of you who are attending for the first time, these are free workshops of 1/2 hour to 2 hours duration that are taught by volunteer teachers. The only expense to participants is the supplies. The purpose of the workshops is to share our expertise and interests, and to explore new techniques and materials.  And, of course, to have fun together.

Here is the basic information we need:
            TITLE OF CLASS
            DESCRIPTION
CLASS SIZE: Minimum, Maximum
KIT:  If any. What is included. Cost.
BRING: Supplies /equipment participants should bring.
WORKSHOP LEADER:  Can be more than one person if you want to work with a friend.
PROPOSED DAY & TIME: What works for you? How much time do you need?  (Sandy will confirm the date & time.) Remember, you can do a demo and get people started then they can work on their own to finish.
A PHOTO OF THE PROJECT: Please send a .jpg attachment. Do NOT imbed the photo in the text.

2. INFO ABOUT ONE CLASS

Judi W.  will be offering a workshop called “Bleach Bottle Snow Man”. The Snow Man or Snow Lady is made using a 93 ounce or 96 ounce bleach bottle. Empty and dried out. They are available at Dollar Tree. (Please empty and dry before coming to class. ) If you think you might want to take this class now might be the time to buy some bleach so you have an empty bottle before November. Registration for this class is limited to 10. You cannot register until registration officially begins in October. This is a heads-up so you can think about getting the bleach bottle if you are interested.

3. Glorious Heard Gear

There is a spark of unique majesty & royalty in all of us. Let’s celebrate that special quality – and have some fun – by wearing a tiara, crown, or other regal head gear while we are at the beach.
Wear your special adornment at any time on any day. On Friday we’ll  arrange a photo op to capture our glorious splendor.
You can purchase tiaras etc. many places. Look on-line, at Walmart or even in thrift shops. (Bridal shops tend to be pricy.) You can make your head piece. There are beading patterns on-line. There are sewing instructions that offer lots of possibilities for customization at https://www.itsseweasytv.com/projects/series_1600/1607/Itsseweasy_1607-2.htm
Your crown or tiara can be general glitz and glamour or it can be themed. Do you want to be the warrior ruler of the world, a mermaid/merman, the queen of quilters, the head of state from some other planet. Have fun selecting (and perhaps creating) your style.

4. Challenge Reminder from Melissa

Fall 2019 SBTS Challenge:
Re-purpose Scraps with Adding Machine Tape

Try a fun, easy, creative and thrifty way to re-purpose small scraps of fabric by sewing them onto adding machine tape. This technique has been very popular on the internet and several SBTS folks are experimenting with it.

We encourage you to make some strips then use them for a project of your choice. Bring your projects to the fall 2019 SBTS and we’ll share our creations.
Simply use a stitch and flip paper piecing to sew scraps onto paper adding machine. All you need is regular  (not thermal) adding machine paper tape and your scraps. Here is a video with the basics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9Iq9TB6XQg&feature=youtu.be

Use your scrap strips to make any project you like.
Bring it to the fall retreat.
We will arrange for a display so we can admire one another’s work.

5. Optional Medical Information

At the last SBTS we decided to encourage everyone to have health information available which, in a medical emergency, could be given to the EMT, physician or other health care professional. The goal is to be sure that if you are not able to speak for yourself there is a way to get basic health information to an EMT or to emergency room personnel.  Participation is optional. You are responsible for your own information.

Here is a form that shows the kind of information that is useful. You may use this form or any other format you wish. Please include whatever information is appropriate for you.

Put your information in an envelope and seal it. Put your name and the words “Health Information” on the envelope. Bring it to SBTS and put it in your work area (perhaps under your sewing machine) and tell your tablemates where it is.

We hope this information will never be needed… but it is wise to be prepared.
