2. TITLE OF CLASS: Fluffy Fabric Flower
DESCRIPTION Learn to make a very easy, and very fun, fluffy fabric flower. These versatile flowers can be used for any embellishment you want. They can be flower pins, put on head bands or barrettes, decorate flip flops, cover pillows --- anything goes. You will see the basic version and a clever variation in which a heat gun magically transforms the flower. Once you know the basic process you can make the template in different sizes to make different size flowers. We will make one that is about 3” across.
CLASS SIZE: Any
KIT: The leader will provide reusable patterns/templates and directions. Kits will be available for $1. When you register let us know if you want a kit(s).
BRING: Hand Sewing needle
A long straight pin
Strong sewing thread - coordinate color with fabrics
Scissors (Pinking shears are optional)
A bone folder or dull knife and a ruler (to prepare your template)
If you do not want to purchase a kit you will need the following supplies for each flower:
Fabric for flower:
18 4.75 inch squares of firm (not floppy) fabric
Note: You want a crisp fabric that will hold its shape like cotton, organza, or taffeta. You do not want drape-y fabrics like knits, charmeuse or a soft satin. Your squares can all be the same or you can use a combination of colors and types of fabric. Choose fabrics that look good on the right side and wrong side, since both sides will show.( IMPORTANT - For the heat gun variation you must use all synthetics such as synthetic organza.) Consider combining “prom dress” fabrics and sparkly sheers. You will get a totally different look using cottons in solids, small prints and batiks.
A 1.5 inch circle of felt (for backing)
A sew-on pin back if you want to make a pin
Warning: This project is addictive; most people cannot make “just one”!
WORKSHOP LEADER: Merrily O’Hara
